In partnership with the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS), we hosted a hands-on workshop to incorporate climate change considerations into fire management planning on the Kaibab Plateau. Over the course of three days in mid-February 2020, attendees:
- Reviewed regional and local effects of climate change on fire in forest ecosystems
- Explored resources and tools that can be used to integrate climate change into management
- Learned about adaptation concepts and principles in the context of sustainable forest and fire management
- Identified challenges and opportunities for fire managers
- Developed actionable steps to adapt forests to changing fire regimes
