In partnership with the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS), we hosted a hands-on workshop to incorporate climate change considerations into fire management planning on the Kaibab Plateau. Over the course of three days in mid-February 2020, attendees:

  • Reviewed regional and local effects of climate change on fire in forest ecosystems
  • Explored resources and tools that can be used to integrate climate change into management
  • Learned about adaptation concepts and principles in the context of sustainable forest and fire management
  • Identified challenges and opportunities for fire managers
  • Developed actionable steps to adapt forests to changing fire regimes
